  • Hi muslims, It's just that i started wearing a headscarf last year in yr 8 and people ask me why i didn't wear it in year 7. What should i say to them because every second person asks me this question including my friends.Please help.

    this is simple. I have been through your situation sort of. i always listen to my mother and one day she told me to wear a headscarf so i did . thing is thats not the reason why we should wear a headscarf to begin with, we are meant to wear the headscarf with the intention to never take it off and to fear allah(swt) and also keep our modeslty. Wearing a headscarf does not mean you are automatically better than other girls if you swear and engage in activities that are prohibited in islam if you do such activities like smoking or anything that has a negative impact on the image of islam because you are wearing a headscarf you may as well take it off. There is nothing worse than seeing a hijabi walking around wearing tight fit clothing revealing their bodies and yet they swear and this is the image they represent to all the other muslim brothers and sisters as well as all the muslims. Take your time and wear it when you are ready. you are not supposed to wear it because you were told to. A person (preacher) came up to me and asked me the same question to which i replied 'because my mum told me' she then told me all this and i have decided to not wear it and fix myself up spiritually and mentally and then wear the scarf for good instead of abusing it and not taking it seriously. I was young like you and when the time is right you should make the right decision with your own free will. Tell them the real reason why you wore the scarf, if its with your own free will then tell them because it is in our religion to be modest and cover up and also to fear allah almighty. x
