  1. I think you were looking for this way though:


    (1 + √5) (2 +√5)
    = (1 x 2) + (1 x √5) + (√5 x 2) + (√5 x √5)
    = 2 + 2.23606798 + 4.47213596 + 5
    = 13.70820394
    = 13.71 (2 d.p)

    Still the same answer but that's the proper "algebraic" way of doing it :)

  5. i read this again and i have a feeling you're meant to multiply everything in the first bracket with everything in the second bracket... if that helps at all =/

  6. (1 + 2.24) (2 + 2.24)
    = (3.24) (4.24)
    = 13.71

    *All rounded to 1 d.p. - I think that's right, haven't done maths for a while :|
