Question:

I am about to have orthognathic surgery next week. I am told the healing time is long and brutal. Does anyone have any advice for speeding up the recovery process--swelling, bruising, pain?

How long should I avoid strenuous exercise? If I practice yoga should I avoid positions where my head is below my heart? Thanks for any advice or wisdom! Or any good smoothie/soup recipes! (Jaw wired shut for 3+ weeks!)

  1. correct me if im wrong but orthognathic surgery is when they fix your jawline ? i would keep away from yoga the last thing you want to do is damage yourself - shortcuts will not work with this just keep away from using your chin/jaw give it all the time it requires this is your jaw we are talking about

    I wish you all the best mate

  2. I think straight after surgery you should be on liquids only. Dont talk too much. NEVER TOUCH A CHEWGUM BEFORE YOUR FULL RECOVERY.

  3. There are complications to this that you dont want to happen;

    1. swelling

    2. bleeding

    3 infection

    4. nausea and vomiting the numbness can also cause nerve damage which could be temporary or permenant there is very less risk of this offcourse or the surgery wouldnt exist

  6. if you believe in god, i suggest you do the prayers before hand that everything goes the way it should im sure it will be fine just take extra care think before doing anything that involves moving your face

    also

    make everyone aware around you that you have had surgery just incase any accidents dont occur aka a friend deciding to slap you around the cheek which may be funny but it happens
