very simple answer:
wifi: its a wireless conection in your home or office (simply a wireless connection to your internet like the ones laptops use)
3G: 3g is the type of Cellular network...meaning its a network connection you can use ANYWHERE you have phone signal....basically its just a phone signal that is very fast and comparable to wifi...
so say you have a phone that does NOT have an unlimited data plan (internet plan) and you are at your house and you have wifi..you would rather use the wifi connection beacouse you will be using YOUR internet connection the same one your computer uses...but if you use 3G you are using a phone companies network like Verizon att and so on
First of all, the difference between U.S. and abroad 3G bands is the operating frequencies. In fact, T-Mobile's 3G network also operates on a different frequency than AT&T's 3G network here in the U.S. So, if you buy an unlocked phone, it's important to make sure it supports your carrier's 3G frequency. Here's an overview of the 3G frequencies:
# AT&T Wireless: 850/1900 MHz
# T-Mobile: 1700 MHz
# Europe: 2100 MHz
The lower the frequency range, the better reach a frequency will offer and the fewer base stations are required to get the cellular fun flowing. Recently, Verizon Wireless won a large portion of the 700 MHz band auction, which will enable the carrier to build a mobile broadband network that could be truly nationwide. And the technology they will deploy for this network is LTE (Long Term Evolution), which is 4G technology offering significantly improved network stability and response times as well as higher data speeds.
wifi is short range data transfer that goes through a computer wireless router.there is different types of wifi ( a,b,g,n )
3G uses the network provider and can have further range
thats what i think it is
hope it helps
wifi is connecting to the internet via wireless router signals such as you may have at home or coffee shops, libraries, bars etc. the 3g ( 3rd generation) is the network offered by phone companies that cellphones use. in other words, with wifi you will have to be in range of an unlocked wifi signal to go online, with 3g ( which will be offered by at&t ) you pay a monthly subscription for intenet service just as you would with a cell phone. unfortunatley, in the real world you are not going to get the best browsing experience with 3g simply because of at&t. they have a very small 3g coverage area. ( i had to laugh when my friend bought an iphone 3gs & crowed about having a 3g phone. i reminded him that at&t doesnt have 3g coverage in our area & it uses edge just like every other phone in our area,,, except for those of us that use verizon & get 3g service). make sure you are in a 3g area before you make any decisions.
It's a common question:
Wi-Fi is faster ( as long as you have fast internet) because it is a direct wireless signal straight from your internet connection via a wireless router.
3G is the cell phone companies' internet connection, slower than wi-fi, but still fast for mobile internet.
People nowadays prefer both so they can switch between them if they want faster internet at home. Wi-fi uses less battery of the phone but has the limited range of however far it reaches (which is usually about your whole house). Hope this helps you a bit.
3G is a national network you have to pay to connect to, WiFi is a local network you can set up yourself, or connect to in public places.
Hello there SW, nice to see you yab again.
Since everyone else has a very detailed and thorough answer about the difference i'll just put it simply.
Wifi is the Wireless Internet you connect to which you may pay through your wireless internet provider or find open Wifi in many public places.
3G is the network you connect to on a mobile phone which is said to be faster than GPRS. But can be accessd anywhere whereas Wifi has a very short range.
I hope this helps and be sure to keep yabbing =)
Wifi is spelt with a W, I, F and an I. and 3G consists of a numeric character 3 as well as the letter G.
Wifi is wireless internet that you run your laptop on and 3G is mobile internet that is provided by phone companies such as tmobile, o2 etc
3G internet is usually only used on the go. Wifi is much faster.
looks like this has been answered well already
