Waiter's Rant
Here's some choices, most are fairly short, and teacher's would be impressed if you had read them.
"Falling Leaves" and "Chinese Cinderella" by Adeline Yen Mah. It's an autobiography of herself, which is kind of a sad story, plus also blends in the historical events of Mao rising and communism fear.
I suggest your read Chinese Cinderella first. Chinese Cinderella is like the child-friendly version of her story, and start en medias res when she comes home to meet her Aunt Baba and reaches until her father decides to send her to Medical School in Europe. Falling Leaves is more for the young adults and older and goes as far as the wedding of her grandparents until the end, years after the death of her father and step-mother.
The God of Small Things
Not without my daughter - Betty Mahmoody
In cold blood - Truman Capote
*The Vampire Diaries
*Marley & Me
*Twilight (popular but good)
*Knife and Rebel by RJ Anderson (two of my fave books ever!)
*Chronicles of Narnia
shamed
A few of my favourites are (in no particular order) :P
- The Lovely Bones - Alice Sebold
- My Sister's Keeper - Jodi Picoult
- The Lucky One/Message in a Bottle/The Notebook - Nicholas Sparks
- Harry Potter series
